Willie Jamieson Legacy

Willie Jamieson Junior Curlers Fund (WJJCF)

The WJJCF has been set up by friends and family in memory of ”one of the best curlers of his generation” (Bob Cowan, Skip Cottage blog), a passionate supporter of junior curling, an absolute legend and inspiration to all curlers. (Read more about Willie’s life below). The overarching aim of the WJJCF is to raise funds to benefit junior curling by providing financial support and coaching through the auspices of ‘The Scottish Curling Trust’.

As agreed by Willie’s family and friends a fund committee of five members will be responsible for considering applications and approving any disbursements. The committee will advise the Trustees of the Scottish Curling Trust of disbursements to be issued and the Trustees will grant final approval for the disbursements.

We are inviting people to donate to the fund set up in Willie’s name. The leaflet for donations can be seen here

Summary of Willie’s life

In late December 2022 we were saddened to hear of the passing of Willie Jamieson a well-known Scottish curler who over the years has won numerous titles both as a junior, at national level and internationally when representing Scotland. He was a very knowledgeable curler, a great tactician and always keen to support young curlers and pass on his knowledge. Willie was well known in the 80’s as the curling voice for STV commentating on many televised games.
Willie graduated with a Law degree from Aberdeen University and initially practised in Edinburgh before returning to Aberdeen. After the loss of his wife Wendy, he took a back seat from curling but was persuaded back to the sport by some of his past team mates to play in the Scottish Mens Seniors.

It was during this time that he and David Kelly asked some of Aberdeen’s young juniors to curl with them in the rink’s super League. After just a few seasons they had moved up from the 4th to the 1st division. One of their regular players was current Scottish Ladies Champion and European bronze medallist Rebecca Morrison.

Willie was also a keen hillwalker, cyclist, an accomplished artist, and drummer to name just a few of his talents.
Despite his modest demeanour he had a great sense of humour and will be much missed by all who had the privilege to know him.
